History
A festival of the Celt to the year termination on the October 31 should be the base of Halloween (hallows = holy).
Into the 4th century, the Irish Celt believed that in this night the souls of the deceased roveed in search of new bodies through their villages.
In order to not to be possessed, they pulled as a fright shape disguises by the streets. Many villages sacrificed even one supposedly in
order to show the ghosts obviously, which fate expects their to possessed.
To America the custom came around 1840 through Irish immigrants, in whose midpoint a hollowed out pumpkin stands, as well as the
appearance more dumbly disguised, which walk about as ghosts from house to house.
Even in Germany - to be sure not the festival contents, but - the external form of this festival have found in the last years some friends.
